Ancient Style Oil Lamp
Product Details

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.” // Matthew 25:1

-

These handmade, clay oil lamps are designed in the ancient, biblical style, modeled after those found in archaeological dig sites in the Holy Land around the time of Christ! They could very well be the lamps used by Jesus and his apostles - the same lamps that adorned the home of the Holy Family, the ones that Jesus studied the scriptures by, and those Christ referred to in the parable of the 10 virgins. These lamps are perfect for prayer spaces in the home or anywhere you would use a candle!

Specifications:

  • handmade of terra cotta clay
  • 100% cotton wick included
  • best for use with olive oil* (not included)

Warning: Use with caution. Keep out of reach of children.

*Olive oil is more then 99% pure. It is clean burning and, if properly trimmed, does not smoke. It was the oil that God directed Moses to burn perpetually in the Holy Place that guarded the Arc of the Covenant. It is a natural and renewable resource, good for you and for the environment!

Directions/care:

  • Twist the cotton wick through the small opening at the front of the lamp. Leave about 1/2 inch exposed.
  • Fill the lamp with olive oil through the top opening of the lamp to about 2/3 capacity. Wait five minutes for the wick to become saturated with oil.
  • Light the wick.
  • Adjust the flame by working the wick in or out of the opening with a tweezers for more or less light. (Note that if the wick is out too far the flame may start to smoke.)
  • Trim wick after each use.
  • Clean lamp periodically by scrubbing gently with hot soapy water. A bottle or straw brush may be helpful to clean the interior. Allow to dry completely (may take a couple days). Insert a fresh cotton wick.
